1.) भाई दूज हिंदी के दो शब्दों "भाई" और "दूज" से मिलकर बना है | भाई का अर्थ तो आप सब जानते ही है और दूज का अर्थ है चन्दर्मा के बाद दूसरा दिन | 

2.) कार्तिक मॉस के शुकल पक्ष के द्वितीय तिथि को और दिवाली के दो दिन बाद भाई दूज मनाई जाती है | 

3.) भाई दूज के दिन यमदूत की भी पूजा होती है | क्युकी इस दिन भगवान् यम ने अपनी बहन यामी के साथ इस त्यौहार को मनाया था | इसलिए इस दिन को 'यम द्वितीय' या 'यामादविथिया' भी कहा जाता है और संस्कृत में भागिनी हस्ता भोजना के नाम से जाना जाता हैं |

6.) मान्यता के अनुसार इस दिन चित्रगुप्त की विशेषकर पूजा अर्चना की जाती है | 

7.) कालांतर में चि‍त्रगुप्त की जगह यमराज को महत्व दिए जाने के कारण गलत धारणा प्रचलित हो गयी की यमराज के मुंशी भगवन चित्रगुप्त है | लेकिन पुराणों की मान्यता के अनुसार यह बार गलत साबित हुयी की भगवन चित्रगुप्त एक मुंशी है | 

8.) भाई दूज के दिन यमुना माता ने अपने भाई भगवान यमराज जी को अपने घर बुलाकर उन्हें तिलक लगाया और अपने हाथ से स्वादिष्ट भोजन करवाया था। जिससे भगवान यमराज ने प्रसन्न होकर अपनी बहिन यमुना को मृत्यु के भय से मुक्ति का वरदान दिया और साथ ही में अखंड सौभाग्यवती बने रहने का भी आशीर्वाद दिया था। 

9.) इसलिए भाई दूज के दिन जो भी भाई-बहन इस रस्म को निभाता है और यमुना में स्नान करता है | उन्हें यमराजजी यमलोक की यातना नहीं देते हैं। इसलिए इस दिन मृत्यु के देवता यमराज और उनकी बहन यमुना का पूजन करना शुभ माना जाता है | 

10.) भाई दूज के दिन ही एक और मान्यता के अनुसार भगवान श्रीकृष्‍ण जी अपनी बहन सुभद्रा के यहाँ गए थे | बहिन सुभद्रा ने कृष्ण जी का स्वागत कर उन्हें तिलक लगाकर भोजन करवाया था।

11.) मान्यता के अनुसार भगवान चित्रगुप्त भाईदूज के दिन से ही लोगो का लेखा झोका लिखते है | 

12.) व्यापार करने वाला व्यक्तियो के लिए भाई दूज का दिन पहला दिन होता है और नए खातों का "श्री" लिखकर प्रारम्भ होता है और साथ ही में लेखनी, दवात तथा पुस्तकों को भी ऐसी दिन पूजा जाता है |

1.) Bhai Dooj is made up of two Hindi words "Bhai" and "Dooj". You all know the meaning of brother and dooj means the second day after the moon.

2.) Bhai Dooj is celebrated on the second day of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month and two days after Diwali. 

3.) The eunuch is also worshiped on the day of Bhai Dooj. Because on this day Lord Yama along with his sister Yami celebrated this festival. Hence this day is also called 'Yama II' or 'Yamadvitiya' and is known as Bhagini Hasta Bhojana in Sanskrit.

4.) This day (Bhai Dooj) is the final symbol of the 5-day festival of Diwali.
