दुर्गा पूजा भारत का धार्मिक त्योहार होने के साथ साथ शक्ति की आराधना का पर्व है। नवरात्रि या दुर्गा पूजा का त्योहार बहुत ही निष्ठां से मनाया जाता है।

पुराणों के अनुसार असुर नामक महिषासुर नाम का राजा इतना शक्तिशाली था कि कोई भी देवी देवता उसे हरा नहीं सकते थे। उसको अपनी इसी शक्ति पर बहुत ही गर्व था कि उसे कोई नहीं हरा सकता और न ही उसे कोई मार सकता था। महिषासुर के आक्रामक रूप को देखकर देवी देवताओ ने ब्रह्मा जी, विष्णु जी और शिव जी से प्रार्थना की, कि हमारी रक्षा करे। 

यह जानकर तीनो (ब्रह्मा जी, विष्णु जी और शिव जी) भगवान ने महिषासुर के विनाश के लिए एक शक्ति का निर्माण किया किया जो शक्ति को दुर्गा देवी के नाम से जगभर में प्रसिद है। जिनके दस हाथों में विभिन्न शस्त्र धारण है। कहा जाता है कि माँ दुर्गा ने महिषासुर से नौ दिन युद्ध किया और दसवे दिन महिषासुर का संहार किया। जिसे विजयदशमी (दशहरा) के रूप में हम सब मनाते है। 

दूसरा इतिहास है जो कि इस प्रकार है :-

रामायण के अनुसार भगवान राम जी ने मां चंडी की पूजा की थी। जिसमे माँ दुर्गा ने रावण का वध करने के लिए उन्हें शक्ति प्रदान कि थी। मान्यता के अनुसार भगवान् राम जी ने विजयदशमी (दशहरा) यानि दुर्गा पूजा के दसवे दिन रावण का संहार किया था।

According to the Puranas, a king named Asura named Mahishasura was so powerful that no deity could defeat him. He was very proud of his power that no one could defeat him and no one could kill him. Seeing the aggressive form of Mahishasura, the deities prayed to Brahma ji, Vishnu ji and Shiva ji to protect us.

Knowing this, the three Gods (Brahma ji, Vishnu ji and Shiva ji) created a power for the destruction of Mahishasura, which is famous in the world by the name of Durga Devi. He has ten hands holding different weapons. It is said that Goddess Durga fought with Mahishasura for nine days and killed Mahishasura on the tenth day. Which we all celebrate as Vijayadashami (Dussehra).

There is another history which is as follows:-

According to Ramayana, Lord Rama worshiped Maa Chandi. In which Maa Durga gave him the power to kill Ravana. According to the belief, Lord Rama killed Ravana on the tenth day of Vijayadashami (Dussehra) i.e. Durga Puja.
